Colleen Meyers received her MA in teaching English as a Second Language at the University of Minnesota where she has taught non-native speakers of English for over 30 years. She was one of the first US teaching specialists to work with international teaching assistants helping her develop effective and practical strategies for teaching pronunciation. Her first textbook was aimed at international TAs who had to improve their teaching skills and pronunciation to teach undergraduate classes. She is currently an Education Specialist in the Center for Teaching and Learning teaching international graduate students and international faculty. In addition to TAs, she has considerable experience working with foreign-born business and medical professionals. She is also a regular presenter at TESOL and a frequent trainer of English teachers locally and internationally. In 2007 she was a visiting Senior Fulbright scholar at the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey, where she conducted teacher training workshops on the teaching of pronunciation.
Sheryl Holt has been teaching professional English, ESL, and communication skills for over 30 years. She has been teaching at the University of Minnesota since 1978, specializing in presentations, pronunciation, professional and graduate writing, and business communication skills in the English Department (now Writing Studies) and the Carlson School of Management. She has also published several materials, including textbooks, videos and workbooks, with a focus on graduate and professional writing, pronunciation, and presentation skills for business professionals and advanced English-language learners. Sheryl is an experienced business trainer and teacher, teaching classes, seminars, and workshops in the US and around the world in places such as Brazil, Czech Republic, Hong Kong, China, and Indonesia. She has also conducted teacher training and writing seminars in several countries in South America, Europe, and Asia. Sheryl Holt’s official titles are Coordinator for Non-native Speakers of English and ESL Communication Specialist. She administers Freshman Composition and graduate-level writing and presentation courses for non-native undergraduates and graduate students from around the world. She also teaches business writing and presentation skills for business students and professionals. Her other duties include conducting faculty training seminars and writing workshops for all non-native graduate students across the university.
